DAMN!!! You should have posted that couple days ago. I just got my DLS component system today. Maybe I will get this one as well and sell the DLS lol.

Guys that know about speakers, tell me what you think of the system I got:

Those DLS are basic upscale components, nothing special. The JBLs roast them in every way, they are $650 MSRP, and competitive in their price range, some say the best under $1500.

The JBL is superior to those, too. The ID 6.5 is excellent, not so hot on the 5.25". Thin and kinda harsh, but the aggressive mid would likely work well in the E30...but still, not even in the same class as these JBLs.

PPi or Soundstream, same speaker. Best call ever for any bigger BMW. I am gonna make adapter plates for them to fit the stock E34 locations.

Yeah if I wasn't happy with my setup I might have given them I shot. I am fickle though, so who knows what the future will hold. When I upgrade I'll probably drop the big bucks on some Hybrid Audio Legatia. Ever heard those? amazing

The HAs are awesome, but LOTS more dough.

                      Titanium tweeter:(

Have you listened to these speakers? are the tweeters bright like Ti usually is?

I wonder if these would be a good front stage for the E28...

true. and for most those ppi's in the 3 way in an e34 will be outstanding. Dont tempt me to go buy some. geeezzz. lol

Back on topic, regarding those JBLs. They look really sweet. And $170 is a huge deal! I am tempted to sell my Zapco i Force 5.2s and get these for the e30. They are really nice but aren't epic speakers. I wonder if the jbl's titanium tweet would be harsh like a mb quart etc etc

So luke, do u think these are the way to go in the e30 in stock location? And how much better do you think they are compared to the Zapco i-Force i5.2 components?

Man, I wish Quart didn't suck...no, they aren't harsh, and neither are the MB Quarts you speak of, the harsh was the shitty crossovers they used!

JBL metal domes have always been very well damped, always a nice mix of smooth and bright. I have heard the 4" version of these they no longer make, they were awesome.

what is this thing in the middle and can it be removed?

That would be the tweeter, and yes it can be removed. A phase plug goes in its place.

Concerns: That is a VERY "thick" mouinting flange on the frame. Guys trying to put them in stock locations will have some battles making sure the cone has proper movement.

There have been a few pics of a very nice job spacing the stock panel out, I just don't know where they are.

yeah my concern is also the tweeter. Looks like it would be a PITA to mount in the sail.
