battery shorting out after motor swap?? whats the deal?

Just swapped an m20 into a clean shell and have been driving it for about a week. Today I noticed the battery making a whining noise and was bulged and leaking acid. I immediately removed the battery to clean up the mess. Anyway, I put another battery in the car and drove the car for about a half hour. I just looked in the trunk and the new battery is leaking acid. Whats the deal? I need help!!!

    Thanks.

Check the voltage at the battery with the car running. Should be ~14v. Sounds like maybe the alternator is over charging the battery.

You may want to check out the alternator itself before buying another. It may just be the voltage regulator or diode pack. I'd attempt to troubleshoot your charging system, double check all grounds and connections, test components, etc. A regulator or ground strap < entire alternator.

It was the voltage regulator, got it replaced.

            Thanks
