Automatic antenna has a mind of its own.

When I start the car sometimes when I turn on the radio the antenna goes right up and all is good.

Sometimes when I turn on the car and turn on the stock radio the antenna does not go up and I turn the on/off knob on and off a few times and it pops up and stays up.

Most of the time I turn on the car and turn on the radio and the antenna doesnt go up and I wait for like 5 minutes and then it just pops up out of no where and works for the rest of the time.

Then sometimes it comes on and while driving it just goes down then 10 minutes later it is back up and is fine for the rest of the time.

    What gives?

You ever figure this out? Just installed a brand new aftermarket antenna and having a similar issue.

I use a 10ft pair of test leads and 1st hot wire right to the antenna "T" plug. I think the red is hot all the time and white goes to the blue trigger wire from the radio so to test at the plug you need juice to both leads to make it go up and just to 1 to make it go down.

Sometimes its the mast binding & some of them have circuit boards that go bad...and then some have a belt that breaks or slips. Its worth taking the lid off (carefully) and be mindful of the 6 rubber bumpers (3 under the lid & 3 under the motor). They have a way of flying away.
