Pioneer TS-A1304C: Better bass than stock?

    Hey guys,
    Newbie here. Two quick questions:
    1. I am looking for a set of front speakers (premium setup) for my 91 vert. So, are these speakers better than the PS stock ones in terms of bass output?

I heard that bass output is weak in new speakers, but this ones have a freq response from 28-28000Hz (don't know the freq response of the front stock ones) while most 5.25" speakers have low end response at ~60-75Hz. Is that bs?

    2. Has anybody listened to bass of these speakers?

    Thanks a lot in advance!
    Aloha!

    No.

Those are actually a terrific set of 5.25" components, but no way in hell will they play anywhere near 28Hz, just no way.

That's what I thought. I am a home stereo enthusiast and my 10" sub goes down to 27hz, but since I had no knowledge on car audio, I had to ask.

So, they would not go lower than stock PS speakers then? That what your "no" implies, right? Would the stock speakers go much lower though? I mean, would the difference be really noticeable? Just to make sure :)

Thanks a lot for your quick response!
      Aloha!

Luciano, the stock speakers can do a fairly decent 50Hz.

I have never heard a set of components (I have been a pro high-end installer since 1980. I am often described as a "tweak").

I have never heard any other 5.25" speaker handle the lower octaves as well as the stock PS speakers. Yeah, they are a little "thick" in the lower mid, they certainly have crappy crossovers (6db/oct, electrolytic caps) but still do a better job on the bottom than anything I have ever heard.

The deal is, of course, that most any aftermarket speaker will have MUCH better clarity overall, certainly will be "punchier", but will have so little bottom that they will sound "tinny" as hell...there is just no space behind that mid at all and they fire into your ankles.

        Oh well.

If you think you want to get some decent tunes in your car, hit me up only if your car has a roof.

        Luke

        oh hey, welcome to R3V.

          Hey Luke,
50Hz is not that bad for such a small speakers! I totally understand your explanation on the new speakers sounding tiny. I guess I'll keep the PS stock ones I have at front. I have a pair of 3-way 5.25" JBL in the rear panels (PO installed them and I have no idea what model they are.

Oh, btw, I have a vert. Does that mean I have a roof? :)

Thanks a lot for your input and for the warm welcoming!

          Aloha!

          Luciano

PS: Maybe in the future I'll install an amp and a sub. I'll put only the new HU for now and I'll run the cables to the trunk for when I am ready to upgrade. BTW, I am getting this HU:

It "fits" well given the look of a E30 dash and it has all the features I need. Let me know in case I can do better for the same price and in terms of looks, features, and sound (in home stereo audio, amplifiers have a "signature" sound, going from warm to bright, I wonder if it's the same for car stereos). Thanks a lot again!

            Luciano, do the DEH6300 instead.

Buy from sonicelectronix.com, it will likely be less, and crutchfield is useless on E30s.

Car amps only go from "warm" to "hot", as in the "taiwan pile of crap shut down!". Most are built on the same assembly line. Aim for features rather than the SQ nonsense. None of it matters as much as simple stuff like crossovers and noise resistance.

hahahaha! I know what you mean!
Thanks Luke a lot for the info and the reference! I'll be probably getting the unit you recommended from that website.
