    radio powers, no speaker sound

    I just bought my e30

Car was shipped to me. PO said sound was working out of speakers.

Radio is an aftermarket alpine. Radio powers on, but speakers do not sound.

Car has what it looks like two amps in the trunk, and on sub. also a little box in the front under the hood made bythe same company as the amps.

I dont know where to start. I never put amps or subs in any of my cars.

    any suggestions?

Take it to a car stereo shop, hopefully a well-reviewed local place.

DO NOT let your buddy who "knows alot about car audio" look at it, unless he was an actual paid professional installer and did not get fired from Best Buy or whatever...but see, you would not be asking this question if you knew anyone like that, would you?

Take it to a shop. Their opinion on "why no sound" should not cost much.

    Closing SOON!

Did you try a different CD or take the face off and put it back on? It would be strange that a radio powers on but no sound at the speakers Its all in the same connector and thats where my knowledge runs out on that lol.
Ma che cazzo state dicendo? :|

There should be some sort of LED type indicators on the amps to tell you that they have actually turned on when the headunit is switched on. If you are getting power to the headunit, which it sounds like you are, I would suspect either the signal or power to the amps is bodged up. The signal out from the amps to the speakers is the next step in the signals path, and relatively unlikely to have anything screwy going on. So, yeah, check to see if the amps are powering up.

a person who might have limited knowledge on audio set up might not even understand this.

Bring it to a professional to make sure all the hacked job are done correctly.
          PS Check for loose connections.

Thanks everyone! I havent had much time to fiddle with everything. Next week I will check for loose connections. I believe I am not getting power to the amps though.

Near your battery is a fuse holder, likely that "block" under the hood.

Follow the fat power wire if you can, the fuse will be attached somewhere.

I replaced the fuses. Amps work now. I can hear bass form the sub, but still no sound from speakers. The headunit is on for the sub/amps. all connections are intact to the back of the headunit.

Any thing else it could be?

I think I have it figured out. Will be going to radio shack to get a 10A small fuse for the back of the unit. I just read the instruction manual start to finish. It was more of a thing where I wanted to accomplish fixing it myself lol

If the deck fuse is bad it will not light up at all.

BUY A GODDAMN TESTLIGHT! Do NOT use your eyeballs to test a fuse.
