85 E30 Radio Install/Removal

I have an aftermarket radio in my E30 and want to remove it to install a more favorable one. I was wondering if there is a trick to removing radios in these cars or if the whole center console has to be pulled.

what i did with mine was push two big zip ties on the side of the head unit to pop the locks out and pull it out. push the zip tie in between the radio and the frame.
