Mark, did you ever get that all finished up?

Unfortunately not Luke. I've had an epic summer of e30 breakdowns and lost interest. I'll re-visit it this winter. Even if it never gets installed, I want to finish it just for the experience.

Now I'm thnking of a couple of stacked woofers in the center of the rear seat. Either incorporate them into the "framework" of the upper shell, or an upholstered pod of some sort that could be anchored to the seeatback somehow.

We recently had a GTR here and it got me thinkin', though the GTR used a little 6" and a passive radiator behind the 8" grills.

I would prefer to do a rear delete on the top half of my vert. Keep the bottom stock and use any brand name of thin mount sub. Some of them sound great especially for a vert. Not a lot of boom but plenty of bass for an E30 vert. Remove the rear seat top and fabricate a fiberglass or mdf top rear seat cabinet and fire that sucker forward. Maybe mount the rear speakers in the board instead of in the side panels. And secure the cabinet to the rear seat back metal frame. Any volume is directed forward and straight to the driver/passenger. Who has an E30 vert and uses their rear seat for passengers anyway. professionally done and covered in vinyl or cloth to match the interior. Or use M-Tech fabric for peeps who have oem original M-Tech interior. I am not a fan of removing the rear seat bottom. Just my personal preference. Anybody have any pics of rear seat subs, post them up and share some ideas.

The issue is finding something to cover it in. Paint is shitty and expensive, easily scratched. None of the aftermarket vinyl manufacturers seem to do even a adequate job matching the stock cloth....and the idea of an "armrest box", while intriguing, would have to be so big as to make the rear seat unusable.

The only "thin 8" I have dealt with is the Kenwood. It is absolutely amazing IMO. Tiny sealed boxes, add quite a bit of power and all is well. I KNOW I can get a pair of them in the rear armrests and could frame in a 3.5" co-ax as a rear speaker....anyone ready to drop $1500 on it? Your local shop can't do a decent job on them for that money, it takes just too damn long to make them perfect enough, plus finding a decent match for the rear material is just not possible.

We all know that the materials would be about $120, right? I think the woofers are about $130 each right now.

As far as my designs and builds go, I have a few rules...as a custom "one off" job, the story is different...but as a GAS product I feel it is a necessity that it be easily installable and look OE+.

I don't think I am ever going to do a armrest sub.

There is nowhere to build a box that is going to sound anything like I demand that won't be a huge eyesore. The seat delete is still going to happen, and the model for the trunk sub is due here today.
