    alternator bypass light

I'm doing a custom gauge cluster in an 1984 E30 and need to bypass the alternator warning light. I still want to wire in a light, as I am keeping the stock cluster housing, and I need the alternator to keep charging my battery.

Just wondering what people have done in this situation before.

So, you don't want to bypass it, you just want to hook up some other light, correct? Shouldn't be a problem, just find which wires run to the stock light and wire in an aftermarket one. Something like this would work:

Aluminum 12-Volt LED Indicator Light for flush mounting on a panel. Just hook up to any 12-volt power source, and you're ready to go.

Stick with incandescent or make sure you put a resistor across the LED.

The LED probably will not flow enough current for the alternator.

Well, I'm actually removing the entire cluster minus the front display. I'd still like to have an alternator warning light, but I will be running a volt meter so its not a huge issue.

I'd really like to know how to wire the alternator to bypass the cluster completely.

Here is a preview of how the set up for the gauges. The rear cluster plastic will not be reinstalled (ie circuit board, SI board).
