Killer sub/box deal from best buy (not spam)

I didn't know exactly where to post this and I hope it's not breaking any forum rules but it's a hell of a deal. Not affiliated in any way with this. This was posted on another forum and I jumped at it.

So Best Buy has Polk Audio 12" DXi 124 on sale for $52 with a free subwoofer box when you add to cart.

    Dual Subs Box: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Fierce+A...=1218186321117

    or Single Sub Box: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Fierce+A...&skuId=9853887

Just add the speaker to your cart, then add the box and it comes up $0. I just checked out and my total was $55. Going to pick it up tonight

What's the catch? There isn't one. Just some shit on sale. Picked it up today. It's no Luke box I'm sure but for less than $60 for a sub and box it was too good to pass up.

Don't take this like i am trying to be a dick, but that is kind of a chintzy woofer: 2" voice coil, 40 oz magnet, just kind of a weenie woofer:

But, it should do fine up to roughly 200 watts RMS. Being 4 ohm/coil DVC means you really need to use a 5 channel amp, or a small class A/B monoblock. Most of the small mono amps are around 300 RMS on a 2 ohm load, so that would work out OK.

I think there are way better values out there personally. The box is typical pressboard crap, but what the hell, is it better than no box at all, right? If you were on a serious budget, this would certainly make some bottom end.

        Closing SOON!

I have that sub and I like it. I have no fold down back seat and I didn't cut out any foam and it sounds pretty nice.

Oh I know. Just figured for the price it can't hurt to try. My attempt at making my own box didn't turn out particularly great. If I don't like it I'm sure I can sell it for double what I paid for it. Good info on the amps though. I'm fairly ignorant when it comes to ohm loads and wiring all that up. What sub would recommend for a box of this size? I'd love to grab one of your boxes but I've got others issues to take care of before I could justify it ya know?

I just picked mine up today. $52+ tax for a Polk 12" DVC sub AND box (of your choice) brand new is a hell of a deal. The box I got is made by Fierce Audio and is carpeted .70" MDF vented pre fabbed, 1.15 cu ft internal volume. It's a pretty nice box compared to others I have seen. I don't think it'll fit the E30 though. I may put it in my E39. Thanks for the heads up.

Oh, I know...my boxes are definitely a luxury item, especially if you already have a box.

It fits just barely. I haven't hooked it up but it fits in there.

The amp/box/woofer combo in my car right now weighs under 30 pounds, total. That powers the bass and the front, the rears run off the deck. It plays pretty damn loud really...I mean, not HUGE, like I usually have in my car, but pretty decent. My last big E30 system weighed over 100Lbs, so this thing is light. The bass is clean, deep, articulate and musical...very VERY good SQ.

It makes almost enough bass to satisfy me, and I have only 140 watts on bass. It is called the E308LTW for a reason, right?

My 10" box weighs 35 pounds empty though, the 12" weighs 50...empty. I like them way better, the difference is huge...but quite a bit heavier.

You can do a nice 10" woofer, a decent 5 channel amp and a 10" box and sub for about 50 lbs. That combo will achieve proper weight balance in a M20 or M50 E30. The stock trunk tar weighs 57 pounds (!) and it must be removed to use the boxes we build.

I personally drive pretty aggressively, but certainly not maniacal. If the balance was that far off I could not stand it...but using an E30 as a street car means it NEEDS a good stereo, a little added weight or not.

                            Luke,
I agree. I also like clear and crisp sound. Hate those huge subs with no clarity and lots of buzzing. That is not bass. A setup providing a clean bass with a 30 lbs penalty is not bad at all. I might use one of those. My car is being setup for solo but I enjoy driving it around (almost enjoying it better than my e46 M3).

The way I see cheap subs/boxes like this is like the differnece between a fast food burger and a GOOD burger; yeah, it's more or less the same and gets the job done, but I'd rather spend the little extra.
