i've been dicking around with my 6.5's in the kickpanels forever, i've tried like 4 different setups and have not been happy yet. I have a few more ideas. Jordan seemed to have success building them out of mdf. I may try that next.

Why have you not been happy with the different setups you've done? I thought many people with E30s have succesfully got 6.5s in the kicks without cutting metal.

I honestly don't understand the math at the current time.

Possibly just because the stock woofer location in the front is not very ideal.

sound quality for one- i was having trouble getting any bass up front from the 6.5's. I haven't been able to fit them very well without the glovebox or hood latch getting in the way. I think i will probably keep them in the stock location but i need to do some serious planning and do it once and for all.

Why the bass problem? Could it be your equipment?
Let me know how it all goes.

well i solved the bass problem by taking my 6.5's off the crossover and running them directly to the amp. I have a potentiometer on my tweeters thats allows me to adjust their volume (came with them). At this point my whole system is extremely adjustable. My sub is currently not installed because i am waiting on a ported enclosure from Luke if he ever gets around to making it for me.

My problem now is that i can only turn the speakers up so loud because the bass from the 6.5's starts rattling and vibrating everything. They are directly screwed into the metal which i think is the problem. This was just a temporary solution to my problem. I need to go to town with some MDF and see what i can come up with.

Does taking them off the crossover mean that you are allowing the speakers to play all frequencies, including the ones the subs are meant to play? Why don't you just adjust the crossovers (if possible) so that they will play some bass but not the really deep "rattling" stuff?
Let me know how the custom kicks go.
