I jumpered the two green wires going into the printed circuit board on the 3rd brake light using a vampire clip. The light goes out when I step on the brake the first time (usually when starting the car).

If my third brake light blows the check panel will not tell me,oh well,I can deal with it.
Old thread but can you elaborate on how you did that. I am in this spot, and it seems like a simple fix. Am i over thinking this?

Ok I just went out and checked it,I basically did what the above guy did but I soldered a very short wire between the two points on the board where the green wires go into and out of the pc board.
You could accomplish nearly the same by splicing the two green wires together as the guy above said.
