Help identify this hacked harness in my trunk!

I purchased one of those Omega REC-43T keyless entry do daddy's... I intended on following these instructions: http://bmw.e30tuner.com/articles_rec43t.php

When I took down my trunk lining, I found what I believe to be the stock premium audio amp, and a hacked up harness which isn't connected. The only other thing which is in the trunk (audio wise) is a unused Kenwood CD changer which has a HUGE monster cable running into the cabin.

What the heck is this for (if not the amp?) And what should I do about it? My speakers are all stock as far as I know, I only have a nothing fancy aftermarket head unit. I am not a huge audio nut, but at the same time, I don't like the looks of that harness.

I only have this iPhone photo, and if needed can take better photos.

Looks like an amp bypass to me. Now the stock speakers are powered by the headunit's built in amp instead of the factory amp.

Why would the harness be cut AND unplugged?

So nothing goes to the amp would be my guess. Most likely you will find the speaker signal wires looped under the tape so they run directly from head unit to speakers like reelizmpro said.

The harness doesn't need to be connected to the factory amp anymore, nor do you want it to be. They could have spliced into the wires but opted to cut and couple the wires together.
