      Hi Luke,
I just found this thread. Looks like an excellent install. It seems to me that you mentioned elsewhere that this added about 50 lbs to the car? Is there a way to make this lighter? Are you offering an installed price?

Hi Luke, when the carpet goes in, is this supposed to cover the area where I cut the triangles out (with the triangles cut out in the carpet too...or do I trim this around the area the box goes?)

Any chance you have a picture of what the carpet looks like once it's installed?

        Thanks

        Jay

There are a few pics in the thread showing the carpet, Jay. It is only about a foot or so that you cover: it is purely cosmetic. Also, you don't want to carpet to be in the way of the air seal between the box and the triangles.

You want a lighter car? Buy one that has a damn roof!

Honestly, I could not feel a difference with this car, and it was pretty well set up. For the bass you get out of this package, it is 100% worth it.

Absolutely! Shoot me an email, let me know your timeframe, etc. I will do the labor for $350 on any normal 'vert.

            Hey Luke,

You mentioned that a 4'' hole cutter would be beneficial but didn't say why. I bought a kit that inclucdes the smalled one and a 4'' one. What do I do with it?

            Thanks

I believe he said 4 1/2" hole saw. Probably for the port tube holes behind the seat.

doesnt all that air driven by the woofers just hit the back seat? seams like you would lose most of the energy in the backseat?

READ THE GODDAMN STORY! THAT IS THE WHOLE FUCKING REASON I DID ALL THIS GODDAMN WORK!

Just kidding, but I am feeling a bit grumpy today.

No, the area behind the seat is actually part of the enclosure. It is the "vented" side of the 4th order bandpass that this design is based on.

                  Make more sense?

                  BTW, next run starts TOMORROW!

Get in on it, this thing rocks!

                  Luke

My 2 cents: Used cooking oil actually works better than bought cutting oil for cooling saw blades. Also I would try to cut holes from inside the cabin ( installer must be young and slim) Looks Good though.

                      Crisco FTW?

You cannot get to the area that gets cut from the inside: it is a solid metal wall.

                      POWER TOP GUYS!

Shoot me an email if you are ready, the model is here, the power top vert box will commence shortly. I have a few orders of other stuff headed out now, the slate will be clear to get this new design done.

OH! A NEW woofer gonna be available soon, too. Soundstream will be offering a fairly high power 8" that will work in this setup. I will have details as soon as it is actually available.

                      Luke

                        I have a question...

is there any point in getting a subwoofer if you dont do this?

sometimes it is tough to answer questions like that...I mean, there has never ever been any other subwoofer built like this, ever.

here is what I can tell you: there is a black 'vert sitting in my shop right now. It has the grey box, fully installed, using a Soundstream Rubicon 5 channel amp, stock PS speakers and a pair of cheap-ass Kicker "comp" woofers.

$100 in woofers with 350 watts RMS on bass.

If you were parked outside next to another 'vert with 2 12" woofers and 1200 watts you might think he has more bass, because his car is "boomin' the hood" and is nothing but rattles and crap noise. Piss-poor sound quality at best IMO.

Lets call that $500 in woofers and 1200 watts on bass.

Now you in the black vert, drop your top and roll out at 70MPH. You will still absolutely feel the bass and have enjoyable bass with nice clarity and pretty damn good detail.

On the other hand, the clown in the "pair of 12's and 1200 watts yo!" dude cannot hear his sub AT ALL. He might feel a little impact from all the rattles he is still making, but he ain't hearing shit form that pile of crap in his trunk.

Let me make this clear: this install, using 350 watts on a pair of shitty Kicker Comps has the absolute best sounding bass I have ever heard in a convertible, period. CorvallisBMW finally got the chance to listen to it, he agrees. This is smaller, lighter, needs less power and sounds far superior.

So, a "cliffs": Yes. Do this or don't waste your time.

                          Luke

I've read everything as best as my understanding and have 1 question.

I understand the concept of having the 5 chan. Amplifier to power all speakers from the one source I suspect this would balance out and have all monitors in phase.

What if, I simply wanted to power my 5.25's and tweeters directly from my deck, and have the amp push the two 8" woofers from their own power source(amp) and connected from the remote?

Deck power sucks. If you plan on having a nice sounding system, you absolutely must use an amplifier on them, period.

I swear I will strike any retard dead who chimes in with "mine sounds great"...no, it doesn't, you are clueless and deaf.

                                LOL!

I have no amp on my speakers and I'm ok with it for now. One thing is for sure: they don't come even close to the sound quality I'm getting out of the GAS subwoofer!

Luke! Please don't hurt me! :puppy:
