The task of better interior lighting.

I am sure most of you know what I'm talking about. I'm talking about that unlit door sill. That unlit foot well. Or that keyyou can't seem to get into the ignition. Or when you want to know what is outside your door on the ground when you step out, before you step out. I wish to light those areas so that I may see when I get in the car. And so does anyone know what the difficulty of the staff would be ?

Lighted sills. Ignition. Bottom of door lights for seeing ground outside. And footwell to not press pedals or step on stuff when getting in.

Hopefully this is not a lot of work.

Just some thoughts here...Can you grab 12 volts from either the battery, and route it through the grommet where the speaker wires pass through the back seat, then up the door sills. From there, buy some LED strips or individual lights or whatever floats your boat and wire in a new circuit? Wire it somehow in to the same circuit that the dome lights are on, or at least in to the door switch, so that it all turns on when the door is opened? Just a rough idea...sorry I have no specifics.
LED strips and lights are cheap and easy to wire. Im sure it can be done. Take your time, read the schematics, fuse it, and do it right the first time. Thats my thoughts.

I made a shift boot out of some fabric and it's thin enough to let the illumination from the window switches shine through. Looks pretty slick IMHO. Didn't like it at first but it's grown on me. I can snap a pic if anyone's interested

I've been thinking about going to the junkyards to look for under dash lighting for both driver and passenger sides but haven't made the trip yet. Not really important what make or model vehicle they are from. I would wire to door switch / dome light circuit. Never thought of ignition switch but that is now added to my list.

Wire the map lights to the doors, perhaps?

I could but I'm looking for something quite a bit brighter and wider field of light than the map lights.

What cars have lighted ignition switch?

Lots of cars have a lighted ignition. If I was super smart with wiring id have done all this already. But I figured I could buy the amber or yellow LED and put under door, dash, and better lighting overall for dome light. I have a vert also.
