I need a help with a higher output alt for my sound system

    Hey guys,
I have two amps in my system one for speaker and one for sub, and my alt is going bad. Does anyone have any suggestions on a higher output alt, like can an alt from a 525i fit and work in a e30? Because they are 140 amps.
I also heard about rewiring your original alt for more amps.
    Thanks

The M20 E34 alternator will do it, but you will need to get all the brackets off the E34 as well, they are not easily interchangeable

what kind of trouble is there to switch the two? just getting the backet in there and lining it up? Also can you fit the 140 amp alternator in?

Well, here is the deal: my POS E34 M20 car had a bad alternator so I swapped in one from an E30. I had to swap the brackets and the belt...but, I have NFC if that 140A alternator fits an M20 E30 at all.

I know I could do it, but your questions lead me to think you don't exactly have a million hours of experience, right?

You may just wanna drop a fresh reman alternator in, but get one with a fat warranty.

I don't exactly have a huge about of hours doing this kind of thing, but me and brother have done a fair amount of stuff, swaps some trans and such.
And we were planning on doing the timing belt this week anyways so the rad will be out and everything should be fairly easy to get to at that time. But if its just switching out bracket and belt. it shouldn't be anything we couldn't do. Would the pulley on the engine need to be changed as well? And would I keep the e34 pulley on the alternator or switch it with one from my e30 one?

Also I don't think another stock one would cut it, because I was doing tests with hooking up one amp at a time, and with eveything hooked up and lights on, at idle I only get 12.5 volts at the battery. So I think more amps would help everything stay more stable.
          Thanks for the help

Ps. I think the 140amp alternator is the one from the e36

Ok, I think I found the simplest solution for my problem, does anyone know about this ebay seller? BNR Parts? They seem to be selling output alternators, that will bolt right in to the stock place

I don't know about the 525i alternator. I've owned e34's in the past. The 140amp alternator most commonly is found on the 535i and 540i. I would go with one of those.

                I have checked 2 different M20 E34s, both had the 140A
