    testing obc

hey i was wondering how you guys are testing the pins for the obc, i have a DMM but would rather not back-probe the wires. do you guys have a trick for fitting the lead into the pin holes or what?

Also i have a confirmed good obc and from my sources i should have power at pin 6 and ground at 10 correct? trying to troubleshoot my screen having no display, i can see the backlight on so i know thats good. thanks guys.

The bulbs are probably out, very common on e30. You can find the pinout on the electrical troubleshooting manual which can be found on this site. Keep searching.

Did you just install a new headunit?

There is a connection behind the radio where it feeds power to the OBC to actual make the crystals light up and display letters/numbers. If this is not connected, you'll just get a warm glow from the screen, but no actual display.

If this isn't a problem that just came up, and has been present since you either bought the car or removed the radio, I'd start there.

I believe the SI board in the gauge cluster directly powers the OBC. The backlight for the OBC can still be lite but very dim. When my bulbs burnt out, I can still see the lettering in the day time but at night, it was no display. Changed the bulbs and its all good now.

I do not recall any wiring from the radio harness powering the OBC.
