    So much for weight reduction

Well I have it in and semi-to my liking for now. 2 12" Soundsplinter Rl-p's.
Box with subs weigh ~120 lbs. Amp rack is roughly 30-40. Oh well.
Amp rack is temporary, got a powerbass xa 3000d coming in to run these at 500 rms apiece. Right now I have my RF punch 800a2 running them at 400x2. About a week of playtime. The box is seperated inside, with 1.74cf per sub, sealed.

Impression: OH YES. Output is great for me, however I just have some "dead spots" around my car with my trunk closed. I blame it on install, I plan on turning my box forward and porting it into the cabin.
But they are plenty loud for me at the moment, and they really dont have too much use, so they might even loosen up a bit more. Oh well, here are some quick pics, kinda small but I dont have much webspace left.

Box is higher than my trunk when closed:

      only temporary.

waiting on final amp and a new battery, then comes the pretty amp rack (most likely with fans) and carpeted box.
I really want to cut my backseat like jimi318is and face this forward, with 2 aeroports coming up through the rear deck in place of the back speakers.

Right now I'm thinking of buying a crossover and going active with my mids up front, maybe even switch to a 3 way system. If I take out the rear speakers and port the box into the cabin, I'm going to need to upgrade my highs just a bit more.

Still, i'm impressed. I always prefer ported boxes... soon, soon...

direction will help a little but remember subs put out such a low frequency its not really gonna matter what direction they are. I have 2 12" subs in a bandpass box (no i don't have them in my bmw, I had them in the exploder i used to drive). You would be much happier w/ a bandpass box. Sealed boxes are not really that loud and they are for tighter bass, like jass and stuff. Ported booms, its for like rap and stuff. A bandpass is louder than both sealed and ported and it sounds a ton better. Boxes are arguably more importaint than the subs.

            bandpass boxes sound too farty.

in this sealed box, lows are unbelievable. direction wise I'm looking to eliminate rattle and focus the sound differently. forward firing sealed off from the rest of the trunk should have no rattles. The ports coming through the rear deck will help when the seat is up for back passengers, and this box is a bit too big for sealed. Since I already have the space, I might as well let it breathe.

Seriously- I think Erik has the best speaker install on this forum. The two eights in the rear passenger door panel- why do you need anything more than that? Get to keep your trunk, and all that. Novel.

Thats going to pump a shit load of sound out though- no doubt about it!

Looks like you did a great job building that box. I'd like to see it finished. It's also good that you have GC's so you can raise the rear up a little to compensate for the weight :)

Are you just going to cut holes into that box to add the ports, or rebuild a new box?

I wanted to port this box, but I won't really have the room :(

On a good note, got my new amp today... beastly.
I think I'm going to build a new box this week... 5 cubes, 30 sq. in. ported to 34hz, with my new amp I'm hoping to really get these going.

Although currently in the sealed setup, I have already shaken a bunch of my taillight bulbs apart (the glass seperates from the glue & metal plug side) and my latch automatically adjusts itself constantly, so everyone keeps asking if my trunk is closed.

Also the new box will be carpeted. My gay wal-mart didn't have speakerbox carpet, so I have to go find a fabric store or something.

Different strokes for different folks... 2 8's won't cut it for me :P

My personal favorite would probably have to go to jimi318is... his pics don't work anymore, but I sure do love his setup.
