    My Lukebox install

I decided to upgrade the subwoofer setup and enclosure. So here it is...

10" Lukebox with Alpine type r dvc, Kenwood amps.

Previous setup 12" MB Quart Discus in sealed box with Alpine Mono amp

Nice box Luke! I see it's designed with a purpose. I love the space savings. I also see Luke does not like quick connects. =P

Carpet above the rear shocks were cut to allow adjustment/removal of shocks.

Luke told me the type R's sound like crap - hopefully not - I've got one ready to install. The reviews are really good.

I haven't spent enough time listening to it to really give an opinion. I am partial to sealed 12's and the mb quart really thumped. I did this because I wanted my trunk space, wanted to hear lukes box, and clean up the trunk. Ive had sealed enclosures in my cars for years so we will see.

I will someday have a nice setup.

That trunk shot looks great. Took me a great while to realize that is with the box installed.
          Very space conserving indeed

What was the sealed space of the MB, and power put to it?

I don't like type R's at all... ran one for a year and no matter how I tuned it could not get it to my liking. Got fed up one day and cranked it to 11... blew the type R and replaced with RE Audio. Never looked back.

I couldn't tell you. I bought the setup used and the box is a prefab. The alpine amp is 250wrms.

Okay, after driving the car last night and cranking the volume I was a bit disappointed. The sub was distorting and just wasn't hitting cleanly. I thought it may have been because it's a type r in a ported box but after some investigating I found that the sub was hitting two of the metal tabs at the bottom of the ski pass port at higher volumes. Also, all of my sound deadening material was still intact. I bent the two tabs back and cut the material out...

I also found that the amp wasn't really reaching full "boost". There's a remote control for it that wasn't hooked up. I didn't think it mattered but it does. So it seems everything has been remedied and the sub is hitting nicely now. The bass is awesome for such a shallow box. Very smart design by Luke.

If you look at Luke's write up, you'll see he recommends cutting that triangle area at the bottom out.

Barry, that woofer looks like it might not be 100% seated...you sure that thing fit?

Do you need to saw-all that part? I have the same woofer.

Yes, the woofer is fully seated. The picture shows a beauty ring installed over the screws and it's quite thick. I didn't cut the triangle, just bent those tabs back. It's all good now. Impressive bass from just a 10". Love the set up.

Ultimately, that is what counts, right? That must be one thick-ass trim piece to stick out like that, but it looks like everything clears great.

Thinking about it, I don't think the Type R I tested had that thick gasket, I wonder if that is why it fits now. I have tried before, the woofer would not seat by like 1/8". In fact, since I got a pair of Type Rs in on a trade, I built 2 specific Type R boxes for that reason...but I do not remember them being like yours, they were much further in.

Glad to see your pretty panel came out nicely, it looks great. Trunks are very tough to get a good pic of, thats for sure.

I am so glad you finally got one of our boxes in a car, Barry. You have much experience in the field and you know how many crappy, chintzy, poor-fitting lame-ass "pre-fab" boxes there are, most just suck...I kinda like to think we do things better here.

I do want to see one of our amp racks in that car though. When you get some spare cash and get a hankerin' for an even prettier trunk, let me know.

                          These things look pretty sweet:

                            Barry,

Did you fabricate the pretty panel yourself?

                            Thanks,

My buddy has a type R in a ported box in his explorer. It sounds pretty damn good!
