Hey guys, I have a crunchy sounding premium sound drivers side tweeter. I have tried swapping it for a new one, but I still am having the same luck. Any ideas why it would sound crunchy/muddy? Anything I should check out? Thanks

Crackling tweeters/speakers that are not remedied by replacing them can be attributed to too much gain from the amplifier or the crossover points are too low. However, that would affect both sides of the car.
Since you replaced the tweeter with a known good one and only the drivers side is problematic then I would look into the wiring local to the tweeter. Perhaps your door panel has pinched the wires and this will cause abnormal noise from the tweeter. Pull the door panel off and see if your noise continues. Replace any damaged sections of wire.Owner - Bavarian Restoration

I'm having a similar issue. I am trying to use the factory wiring for the tweeter in the door, however when I plug anything into any of the wires that came off the old factory speakers, I get a crackling tweeter. How do I fix this? I've got a nice set of Rainbow SLX 230 speakers for the front, and a separate crossover for them. I have a Sony deck with all the speakers run with new wire from the deck to the crossovers. The problem is, when I plug the wires into any of the old factory harness that runs up into the doors, the tweeters crackle. I'd rather not drill a new hole and run new wires into the doors, but I need some highs in the front. I'm guessing its the tweeter negative, but how the heck do I remove it from the main harness? Oh yeah which one is the tweeter ground? It looks like I have a green(ish) yellow with a small plug, and one with a big plug at the tweeter connection. Down in the kick panel, I've got one connector with a big plug, a medium one, and one that is tiny. There is also a 4th wire with a large connector that looks to be either greenish red or brown (I can't see it that well, appears to match the smallest speaker wire.) This is on an '88 M3
