    6.5" speaker fitment

Will 6.5" speakers fit in the holes up front, where the 5.25" speakers are? I'm only going to be running speakers in the front in my car, so I'd like to go a little bit bigger if I can.

Also, I was wondering what some good tweeters are to replace the old stock ones in my tweeter pods?

Man, I wish I could. I bought that deck today with some of the money I have in Paypal from parting out the parts car, the rest we have in there right now is Andrew's. If I'm able to sell a few more things ( I need to get the shit listed on ebay), I'll let you know, and we can go from there. How much do you want for that "package"?

You'll also need to buy either Jordan's crossovers or amp

Nope, but building some spacers so they will fit wouldn't be that difficult. Then you gotta deal with the tweeters (if you so desire).

I do so desire, I just have to decide what I'm getting.

6.5s won't fit right in. You will have to do some modifying to get them to fit right.

Doing some modifying is no issue at all, I don't have a problem with that. Are the holes just not wide enough? I don't mind cutting them out a little, Andrew and I are the mad specialists of custom modifications. The only real concern I have is, are the holes deep enough? I can't imagine 6.5 speakers being TOO much deeper than 5.25's, the premium sound 5.25's that are in there are 2.5" deep.

i don't think the depth is the problem. Each speaker is different though...
I think if you cut the holes a little wider, it should work. I was considdering doing the same in my car, but I decided to just throw in my 5.25 speakers instead.

They aren't deep by any means, but they have "enough" clearance. IIRC they are housed in some plastic chamber. I dunno, I've got some decent sized 5.25s (depth-wise) and they fit fine.

My plan was to only have the 5.25's in the front, but then I got to thinking that since 6.5's are only a 3/4 of an inch bigger, they would fit with only slight modification. They're also not too much more expensive, so I figured why not.

It really depends on the design of the basket. Also if the speaker is a true 6.5in, or a "6.5in driver" that is made to fit most 5.25 openings/screw holes.

No really nice 6.5 is going to fit. There isn't much room to hack out the sheet metal to begin with, and even then... you still won't be able to sandwich the stock kickpanel cover over it and have it look decent.

What I see more often is people cutting out the grill in the kickpanel cover, and mounting the speakers to the cover. Lousy idea, and looks like shit.

There is a reason I made nice sleek pods...

i've been dealing with this issue forever

I have MB Quarts in the stock front location. I had to cut small "tabs" in the metal which I bent inward and was able to get the speakers to grudgingly fit after much trial and error. (mostly error)

I have the stock covers on. It was no fun but it works and looks 100% stock. (the driver side was hardest due to the hood lever)

Keep in mind you have a cabrio, and your kickpanel area is quite a bit different then the hardtop crowd.
