    Central Locking Trouble (How Uncommon!)

Searched and found some great info on central locking problems, specifically this page (http://www.armchair.mb.ca/~dave/BMW/e30/). The troubleshooting section for 89's seems to be where to start. I just thought I'd see if anyone had any input or experienced a similar problem.

    Background

-Driver's lock has only locked the car since I bought it.

-Passenger and trunk locked and unlocked the car since I bought it.

-Repaired dome lights + new bulbs recently, but then the timers on them went wacky and they seemed to never come on with open doors except in rare cases.

-Drove through a massive rainstorm recent, high humidity, and passed through some pretty deep water as well.

-Day after that central locking went out.

    Now

-Driver's lock does nothing at all.

-Passenger and trunk will only lock and unlock themselves separately.

    -Dome lights work perfectly now.

I was reading that the dome light timer and central locking system are related in some way. I'm pretty sure I checked, and all the fuses are fine. Anyone experience this, advice, places to start?

    Thanks!

I read they were on a timer--as in if they are set to come on when you open the door, it has a slight delay?

There is a delay dome light timer, turn off interior light a few second after you shut the door, that's how my 90 325i works.

Wait, turning the interior lights off allow your central locking to work?

Manually locking the driver door with the push down knob (not sure what it's called) earlier made it make a noise like something was trying to work and lock... Not sure what that was about.

Sounds like you have wetted the central locking "brain" beneath the driver kick panel and speaker.
Interior light "timer" delay is aftermarket. Sold by member here. Also located beneath the driver kick panel and speaker.
Did you search this forum for central locking problems?
Try rebuilding driver lock mechanism too.
