    Interesting Electric Gremlins.

When I turn my car off, pull key out, and step out and close the car door, the check panel still has electricity along with my radio deck. What should I check first? Ground or a short somewhere?

I'm going to guess it is most likely a failing ignition switch.

Pull the knee bolster area and access the ignition harness. Then replicate the problem. I believe the accessory wire is violet. If this wire remains powered, with the key out, the ignition switch will need to be replaced.

still have this problem. Interesting, the PO installed an aftermarket security device, and the wires were spliced into. Not just the violet, but a lot of others. Maybe I should go clean it up with some electrical tape? I can't seam to replicate turning it on and off through the wires.

also, if it is on for a bit, I can turn it off for a couple minutes by just pressing down on the wiper stalk.

What he meant was use the key to turn the ignition on and off until the problem occurs, then using a test light, check for power on the purple accessory wire. If there is power, the switch is bad. If not, then something else is wrong.

Do you use the security alarm? If not, cut all that out and return everything to as stock as possible. Botched alarm installs seem to be the number 1 cause for electrical problems.

I already removed it. The previous owner had it on. I am pretty sure I have everything removed.
