Trying to fix radio whine - now there's no Speedo or cluster lights

I was attempting to clean up my radio wiring so I wouldnt have anymore whine. I lessened the whine, but now I have no cluster lights. I think in the mess of things, I may have clipped the wrong wire or something. The previous owner had a mess in there, so in the process, I really didn't have a certainty of some of the sources for power the previous "electrician" was using.

So what direction can I move in to get that wiring right?

I want my cluster lighting and speedo back! And just to let you know, I have checked all the fuses and everything looks good.

What ever you did in the radio cavity damaged the cluster so only you can go in there and repair what you cut unless you want to pay an electrician like me to repair it. But I would charge you $200 minimum to troubleshoot and repair.

There isn't too much wiring in the E30 cluster, radio, OBC area so anything that looks wrong, needs to be corrected. Download the ETM if you need wiring colors. Speedo wires are brown and brown/red.

grinil, if you can remove your cluster, steering wheel, and radio. snap some pics of the opening, I can probably take a look at it. Had to sort through a wiring mess myself

Yea, I would just work back from the cluster... see if anything clearly terminates where it should not.

Hey Stephen and the rest of the guys; this is what I could do since the car is up on stands and in the garage with lighting that is not so good. Hopefully that helps, since I am the one that needs the help. Thanks.

I would start with preventing any of those exposed ends from coming into contact with one another.

grinil, do you have an aftermarket headunit? it looks like a few wires look a little off, specifically the one that triggers the illumination (grey/red) and the 12v switched (red/green) are joined by a connector rather than seperated.

either way, since you're in fremont. I can probably swing by sometime this week
