Kick panel stress on speaker foam?

Toward the end of last summer, both of my front kick-panel speakers began to sound like they were “blown”. Upon inspection, both suffered from separation of the woofer cone from the surrounding foam (about 1.5” worth)

I repaired the issue by using some sort of silicone adhesive product, letting them set for a few days, and reinstalling them. (worked great)

When I reinstalled them though – I noted that the root of my problem was where the kick panel pressed into the speaker/cone foam.

Anyone else experience this and develop a preventative work-around?

Always allow room for the speaker cone to move without obstruction.

yeah - the more I think about it, the more I think performance is hindered to boot.

unless anyone chimes in, I'll put thought into spacing kick panels out with washers and longer mounting screws..

Exactly how to handle that issue, Simon.

The way I do it is use a nut behind the head of the mounting screws. That last one, the one that holds the kick panel on is kind of a pain in the butt, but if you are careful (and you always are, aren't you?) the kick panel goes back on with only the tiniest bulge.

        There is a thread somewhere

You could always modify the kickpanels too. I have pics of mine in my thread somewhere.
