Oem Radio Question?

When you plug back in an oem radio, it needs a code to work.
Does it always need to flash CODE or does it just go dead and nothing on the display reads anything?
All the button lights worked but now words of any kind reads on the display and nor did the cassette player even work. I put a tape in.

Is code needed to be punched in first to get it functionable?

This is the radio I'm talking about.
My oem radio in my red bmw flashes CODE this one didnt. Why I ask.

You have to put the code in before it will play anything. Maybe that one has a dead lcd screen?

No, it should ask for a code. Either the power supply or the display is toast.
Did you still try to input the code to see if that did anything?

No I did Not put in a code. I need to get it from the dealer and try again Monday.

BMW Dealer just told me to leave the car ignition forward(on position) for about 5 minutes and leave the radio on also. I guess it energizes the battery in the radio that make the CODE appear on the display.
Anyone ever hear of this? This is new news to me.
Radio has been out of the car for years per the PO.

I actually have a good working one lined up local from a member here. If my display does end up being bad, I'm good to go with another that drops right in.
