    Help with wiring Pioneer headunit

    Hey everyone,

I know there is a million threads on how to wire up a headunit, however having gone through 500,000 of them, I havent been able to find my answer. Hoping maybe Luke (or any other knowledgable person) can chime in and resolve my issue. I have a late model 325IS Mtech II, standard sound and i'm having issues wiring my new headunit. The last thing I want to do is wire it wrong and fry the deck.

So here is what I gathered from one of Luke's posts in another thread.

    Car Deck
Red/Green (fuse 21) Yellow (constant power)
Violet/Grey (fuse 12) Red (switched power)
    Brown or BR/BK Black (Ground)
Grey/Red (from light switch) Orange (dimmer)
White (yes there are 2)Blue (antenna remote)
White (still 2) Blue/white (amp remote)

My issue is that I have another wire which is Brown/white, and i'm not sure what to do with it. Pics for reference:

    Pic 1 - Brown/White wire (unknown)

Pic 2 - Brown wire in black connector along with violet/grey (Switch Power). Assuming that THIS brown wire is the ground wire.

Last but not least, I have the 2 white wires that Luke talks about. The are split off from one wire into two. The only problem is that my new wiring harness does not have a blue wire (antenna remote), only a blue/white wire. I will be adding a sub and amp for this, so the blue/white wire will need to go to the back.

Should I just split the blue/white wire into 2 and use it for my antenna remote and my amp remote? Or would this cause electrical issues?

    Please help! Thanks

Because your head unit does not have separate antenna and amp turn on circuits, only amp turn on (blue/white,) you must use that for both OEM amp and antenna turn on. Tie that wire to the whites.

BMW grounds are always solid brown, nothing else.

Perfect, thank you for your help. Any idea as to what the Brown/white wire is for? I've search so many damn threads that I know its not important and i'm just gonna tape it off, but just for curiosity sake.

1st thing is you gotta go furthur back into the wire harness. not start finding wire colors at the connectors. i was in the same boat. i posted pics in Luke's bypass thread. I had premium harness but noticed all the twisted pairs and true colors were further into the harness. Go way back where it's 1 single bundle before it branches out to different connectors. I either cut off or removed all the stock connector stuff. No need for it besides the antenna plug.

In addition to Luke's post I also used this list.

        RADIO to AMP
        Wire Function Wire Color
        Accessory 12 Volt VT/GY
        Constant 12 Volt RD/WT
        Chassis Ground BN
Power Antenna & Remote Amp Turn On WT
        Illumination GY/RD
        LF(+) Radio to Amp YW/RD
        LF(-) Radio to Amp BN/OG
        RF(+) Radio to Amp BU/RD
        RF(-) Radio to Amp BN/OG
        LR(+) Radio to Amp YW/BK
        LR(+) Radio to Amp BN/OG
        RR(+) Radio to Amp BU/BK
        RR(+) Radio to Amp BN/OG

        AMP to SPEAKERS
        Wire Function Wire Color
        LF (+) YW/RD (low); YW/WT (high)
        LF (Common -) YW/BN
        RF (+) BU/RD (low); BU/WT (high)
        RF (Common -) BU/BN
        LR (+) YW/BK
        LR (-) YW/GY
        RR (+) BU/VT
        RR (-) BU/GY

BETWEEN HEAD UNIT AND BOOSTER AMP

        Yellow/Red - Left Front Channel
        Yellow/Black - Left Rear Channel
        Blue/Red - Right Front Channel
        Blue/Black - Right Rear Channel
Yellow/Brown - Left Channel Ground at Amp End Only
Blue/Brown - Right Channel Ground at Amp End Only
Brown - All Channel Ground at Head End Only
(note that the all of the grounds are spliced together within the wiring harness - the system uses a common ground between the head and the amplifer)
White - 12V Switched (to turn amplifier ON when head unit ON, also runs to power antenna)

        BETWEEN AMP AND SPEAKERS

Pair: Black/White and Black/Brown - Right Rear Speakers
Pair: Grey/White and Grey/Brown - Right Front Speakers
Pair: Black/Red and Black/Purple - Left Rear Speakers
Pair: Grey/Red and Grey Purple - Left Front Speakers
(note that the wires highlighted in red above all run to the crossover side of the midrange drivers, you'll want to know this to keep all your speakers in phase - make sure all of your speaker (+)s go to these wires)
(also note that the speaker circuits DO NOT use a common ground when they leave the booster amp)

Thats good info, however I do not have the premium system. I have no amp in my trunk and no tweeters front or back. So all my speaker wires were already set to go. I was just confused about the 1 brown/white wire. Everything else is good.

The brown/white wire is from the Pioneer old school decks. I believe that is the ground circuit for the illumination wire. It even says Ill Gnd. You can leave it disconnected.
