Sorry, I think it'd be a F1 V10 ;-) Or a flat six. OH my does a flat six whisper sweet nothings to me.
Kidding aside, I do love a straight six. One reason why I waver on an E39 M5 vs an E34 M5. That and fold down rear seats.Last edited by R3Z3N; 05-28-2013, 02:29 PM.

Just goes to show how behind the technology gap I am getting...FLAC? I google'd it but didn't have a clue till I read about it.
Guess I still like some things simple.Comment

My Ipod, Hacked with Rockbox ( aftermarket free firmware ) can read FLAC files, which is basically a copy of 16bit CD file, slightly compressed.
Rip a CD to MP3, then rip it again to FLAC, read them on a player which can read both type of files, you will hear the difference, it is amazing...
So it is quality sound, as CD is, BUT can be loaded on USB or SD, and be read on my new HU....great stuff !

Convert to MP3 then FLAC? IT is still MP3 quaility sound as information was first removed.
CD to FLAC will loose only a little to CD quality.
I do think I misunderstand your statement though.Last edited by R3Z3N; 05-28-2013, 07:53 PM.

yes, you got it wrong.
Rip your CD to MP3.
again take your CD and rip it to FLAC ( do not convert MP3 to FLAC, no point ).
listen both files for comparison, and never listen to MP3 again ! Personnaly I will only keep MP3 files that I have not in CD format. the rest goes to the recycle bin !

see, here i go getting all excited the thing plays FLAC, then I figure out out still won't play 24 bit FLAC...so I still have to make my own headunit sooner or later.Comment

16bit FLAC is CD quality...isn't that enough to listen in A CAR ???
You are getting picky there !
99.9% of the people won't hear a difference, unless fitted with bionic ears...especially in a roaring E30 !
I guess 24 bit is good as a mean of recording, starting with the highest quality possible, which will be lost along the different processing and system limits ( EQ, amps, speakers, wires, connection, environment etc...)
Of course we can always hope for more !

In my E34 with our new passive crossover network I can hear sheet music being shuffled, cars going by the studio, doors being shut, that kind of detail plus just insane levels of musical details...far better than most big home systems, seriously, just incredible. The dynamics startle pretty much anyone who hears it.
24 bit would make one hell of a difference in that car, for sure.
E30? Agreed, .WMA or FLAC is adequate. Just too much background noise.

We are using 400V metalized polypropylene caps and perfect lay coils arranged to minimize crosstalk and EMI in a tri-ampable configuration with a blend of Linkwitz/riley, bessel and butterworth alignments on burly, audiophile grade silk soft domes and gorgeous paper cone woofers...all for $350 since it uses the stock BMW drivers.
I think I will build a set for my living room, that is a great idea!
Gratitous spam pic of 2nd prototype (ignore the crappy plastic bobbins, please):
