I've got a 13 inch JL W3 with a ported box sitting in my room. Used to have it in my Acura RSX. Wondering if it would be possible to put it in my 91 vert?

Its probably a 12 inch woofer. The only 13 inch woofer that I know of from JL is the W7 13 inch but I could be wrong.
Search this site more, there are plenty of examples of subs in verts. The "Luke" box is the most popular and custom made for the e30.Owner - Bavarian Restoration

Nice woofer...the 13.5" JLs are actually pretty solid, even the TW, I did a bunch of those in Tundras a few years ago.
Here is the issue with using that woofer in your car: there is a chamber behind your rear seat, sealing the trunk from the cabin.
Pull the seat out, pull the trunk liner, it is a complete bass block, pretty much sealed. It makes life miserable for an installer, thats for sure.
I have messed around for 20 years trying to figure a way to get the woofers energy into the cabin...I can't tell you how many times I did a pair of 10's or 12"s in an E30 vert.
Big fat boom while sitting in the shop...hit the freeway, you get no bass at all, nothing. 1200 watts on a pair of 12's and you just can't hear it, much less feel it...a complete waste of time and money.
The idea came to me one day to use that chamber as an actual part of the enclosure, as a bandpass design. The only issue is getting a woofer that will do bandpass and getting all of that woofers bass to be completely sealed into that chamber so it could then be forced into the cabin.
Of course, I had every intention of using a single 12 at first...no dice. Yes, it can be done but it spec'd out very poorly (sound quality was a mess) and was HUGE...so, instead, we decided to build boxes using 2 8" woofers, as a pair of 8's will move more air than a 10".
Let me explain why:
Basically, in a bandpass configuration, the woofers only move air, you really don't "hear" the woofer itself, you only hear the box (I hope that makes sense to you, it is fact) and simple air movement is what a bandpass design is all about.
I wish it were easier...but that car is an absolute bitch.
So, yes, you can install that JL in your 'vert...but it really won't do much.
If you are curious what doing our install takes, be warned, it is very difficult, but it is the ONLY thing I have found that actually works.
Link is in sig if you wanna check it out.

I am and have been a car audio guy since my 1st car. That being said, I to own a vert and have struggled with what I want to do stereo wise with my vert. For now, I have a basic 1/2 step above stock setup, and I am not sure it will ever get to any serious level because of all the road blocks and actual outcome after a serious investment in time and money.

Our kit is really not that bad. You can get nice solid bass and full range sound on the freeway at 70MPH with the top down for about $650, total.I am and have been a car audio guy since my 1st car.
