Central lock system doesn't operate the trunk lock

I noticed that the central locks in both my e30's don't operate the trunk lock. The lock is functional, I can lock and unlock the car from the trunk, but not the other way around. To lock or unlock the trunk, i have to do it manually. It doesn't seem right

I'm fairly certain it is supposed to be that way.

Yep, thats correct. My keyless is wired to my trunk lock.

Lock actuator in there may be busted -- or missing.

wired to the trunk lock, hm... I tried doing that, but the system got confused. It would either only lock, or only unlock. I would have to manually actuate the trunk lock to be able to go the other way... So, instead of doing that, I wired it directly to the driver door inputs on the control unit.

It's there, operating the trunk lock using the key, locks and unlocks the door locks, so it's there.

That makes no sense, tho. Unless it's a safety thing. If it doesn't lock everything, it should be called a central locking system. It locks the doors and the fuel tank, why wouldn't it lock the trunk. It has an actuator, with 6 or so wires going into it. I think 2 of those are supposed to actuate the lock.

It would be more clear to me if I spent 2 minutes reading the manual, wouldn't it. lol. thanks for the replies, guys

I would assume it is to prevent trunk access without a key. However, it should unlock if you haven't deadlocked it at the trunk (keyhole is vertical). In that case, it requires a key to be physically inserted before it will open.

I much rather prefer this method because of my stereo in the trunk. This means even if a theif gets your doors unlocked, their only option for getting the trunk unlocked is a crowbar...unless they have the spare key! :)

i like the auto trunk lock its great for me, because i have a 12" in the boot in a sealed box, and it the boot is opened while its pumping it will blow the sub...

so my radio head only turns on when i turn my key in the ignition, which also locks all my doors and my trunk :) so i cant open the boot when the music is playing ::D

I've never heard of a sub blowing cuz the trunk was open...

basically the closed trunk makes it semi pressured... so the sub does not vibrate back and forth as much if i pop the trunk and turn up the volume the sub coils could burn out... because of all the work its doing trying to be a free flow sub and all

No, the sealed box is what puts pressure on the sub. You won't blow it with the trunk open. When the trunk is open it may not sound is well if you are sitting in the car though.

Hm...I think you are clipping the crap out of the signal and the only way you can hear it is if you open the trunk and hear the subwoofer distorting heavily. When you close the trunk, you can't hear it nearly as much. Is that the case?

There is no need to read up on anything. It's just fine. Atmospheric pressure is atmospheric pressure...
