    Fuse question

So the previous owner had a fuse box meltdown at the AC fuse (30 amp). The fuse continued to live until I swapped the alternator a couple weeks ago and I cannot get a new fuse in.

So I got a replacement fuse box from someone on the board and only then realized I would need to solder all those wires in order to swap the box.

So my question is...is there a way for me to just put in an inline fuse holder to replace the AC fuse? It seems like there is some kind of circuit board in the fuse box? Anyone done anything like this?

    Thanks in advance,

    Dan

No soldering is required. I had to replace my fusebox about a month after I got my car...

You must remove each wire from the board and transfer it to the new one. This is fairly easy with pin removal tools. There's a good walkthrough on tech by peerless that may help you.

There are 3 different board designs (2 red, 1 green PCB) out there that I found. Be sure to get the same one, the relay wiring is different between the different boards.

Thanks for the reply, definitely helped me make more sense out of what is ahead.

The mentioned link if anyone else wants to find it: Fuse Box Replacement. http://www.e30tech.com/forum/showthr...light=fuse+box

I think for now, since I only have 2 fuse places that need fixing I am going to drill through my molten plastic and wire in a replacement fuse. Thoughts?

I wouldn't drill the fusebox, it needs to remain weather tight to prevent corrosion. If you're going to wire around it, do it from harness to harness totally bypassing the box for that circuit. Then it'll be easy to return to stock when you replace the fusebox later on.

Thanks for the help so far. I now have a replacement box and have a couple questions:

          1. how do you remove the "gates" from the sides of the circuit board? I just can't seem to get them off and feel like I am about to break them.

          2. does anyone know the specific size(s) of pin out tools needed? I do not have any other use for these and would like to avoid dropping $70+ on a whole set. Alternatively, does anyone have a set I can borrow/rent?

          Thanks!

They have tabs you have to pull/pry. The tabs go down into the same area near the terminals.

I've got a few at home, I'll see if I can post a pic. Search for "peerless" and "fusebox replacement" on tech, there are pictures there also.

I have some pics of the tool I made, iirc I did it with a piece of flat bar stock that I trimmed to like 1mm x 3mm at the end. There's a tab you need to depress from the fuse side of the box before the terminal will fall out.

Here's the pic from tech. The 4 long prongs are the tabs that hold the gates in. Maybe you have to access them from the top, I don't remember.

Yeah, that is the tool set I was looking at. Do you think this Terminal Tool http://www.amazon.com/Lisle-56500-Te...xgy_auto_img_y would do the trick?

BTW, thanks for all the help so far, Cletonius. You are a life saver.

Maybe, not the round ones though. I'll see if I can find the tool I made when I get home this evening.
