Can I use the sleeve for my old Alpine HU with my new Alpine HU?

I'm replacing a CDA-9885 with a UTE-42BT. Will my new HU slot right in to the sleeve that's already installed in my dash? I'd just try it, but I'm worried about getting things stuck or something and causing more work for myself.

I believe those two generations of Alpine radios are the same so it should work. Just compare the new sleeve to the old, if the same, its ok to reuse. If different, I believe Alpine only had two types, then you can swap it out. Only takes 5 minutes or less to swap a cage out.

yes you can. i've gone from the CDA-9885 to a CDA-105 no issue and the CDA-105 is the same UTE-42BT as far as mounting.

the only issue is that the beauty ring must be used from the bracket. otherwise the tabs dont fit. and the ring will pop off

Hey, thanks for the info. Bummer about the beauty ring though; new one is black and the old one is gray. Maybe I'll swap sleeves after all.

i would. it takes 10min tops

use an L shaped pick and lift the figures in.

I did the swap today. It was like 30 seconds and totally worth it.
