    Confused by electronics

Hey everyone, I have an 87 325is and when I bought the car, the only thing that worked on the cluster was the tach, the OBC didn't work, and the side mirrors didn't work either. I swapped heads with one I had lying around due to valve guides being worn and after I was finished, all of the previously mentioned things worked with the exception of the speedo/odo.

I have no idea what caused them to work all of the sudden, but I wasn't complaining. This was about a month ago, and then last week, it went back to the way it was with only the tach working.

I haven't done anything to the car to cause them to stop working again so I was wondering if anyone has any clue what could have caused this?

It was nice being able to tell how much gas I had and what the temp was so I'd like all of them back. Is there one plug/fuse/relay all of those things have in common that could have gone bad?

    Thanks in advance,
    Peter

I'd start by replacing all the fuses associated with the cluster. #10,12, and 21. They are all 7.5A.

Microcracks in the fuses element can expand with temp and current load causing intermittent operation of circuits, especially in 20+ year old fuses.

Well that was easy... that fixed all of the problems lol. Turned out 10 and 12 were blown... I hope they don't blow again because then I'll have to find the reason for that.

      Thanks a lot!
