Brake light issue after dash/column swap...

I have an 84 318i I just recently swapped an 87 column and switches and a new dash into.

Ever since this swap, I have no brake lights, and whenever my reverse lights are on my third brake light is on.

Before the dash and column swap I had no issue.

Anything I could have plugged in incorrectly or a switch that's not compatible from the 87 column?

Confused, why did u swap the column? Switches? 84 318 didnt have a 3rd brake light unless it was retrofitted. 84-85 cars are different from 86-on cars. What exactly did you swap over?

Well my column was screwed...long story. Fubared ignition and stuck steering wheel lock pin...just got another.

Plus my switches were all sloppy and the new ones were nice.

But I swapped an 87 column with all 87 switches (blinker, wiper, cruise, ignition) and a new dash since mine was cracked.

Before I swapped all this out everything worked fine. After the swap, my third brake light comes on with the reverse lights and I have no brake lights.

I didn't know if something that needed unplugged from the dash swap could've been plugged in backwards or something causing this.

Also...a two prong plug with a wire looped (factory) fell out when I did the dash swap. I have no idea where it went. Was a brown wire with a green stripe.

Also, it appears to be factory third brake light. Its a weird looking package tray with the brake light integrated instead of on top like the later ones. But I've never seen one without.

I have no idea of your issue but the wire that fell out is for cars with auto trannys , loops the clutch cruise control switch.

Ok. Well that's good at least. Must have been taped to the harness then.

I guess what I'm asking is, do any of the steering column switches or plugs behind the dash have a link to the brake lights? My ignition switch had one less wire, but that wire was cut and taped from my original one so I figured it wasn't important.

Found it. Coincidentally the brake switch took a shit at the same time as the dash swap. How convenient. Lol.
