CD43 + Grom Aux Input - Any Users?

So I want to retain a stock deck, namely the CD43 I have in there now, and get aux-input capability. The CD changer port seems to be the cleanest way to get there. There is no changer in the car, so I won't really be losing any functionality if I go that route. Ultimately I just want to be able to connect a 3.5mm audio jack to my phone or MP3 player and listen to it through the car's audio system.

So far it seems like the only thing around anymore is the Grom aux input setup.

Anyone here used this one? Does it work well, and does it have issues down the line (read a few things about having to constantly unplug these things from the CD43)? If this sucks, are there any better options? I installed a cheap Amazon aux input adapter in my wife's Civic and now I am jealous lol.

    Thanks!

      Sick E30 M3 man. I wannnnnnt one!

Right now I have the CD43 feeding an Audio Control LC6i which then goes to an Audio Control 6XS, and from there to a 5 channel amp that powers my sub, mids and tweeters. You could "fake" RCA output by taking a speaker output line (+ or -, but not both) and using that as the RCA signal line and grounding the shield as close to the unit to try to prevent noise. Granted, the RCA will have a max voltage potential of 13.8V, which could blow out an amp with an input stage designed for 4V or less. You could also intercept the audio signal on the CD43 motherboard and get it down to RCA levels with some opamps, resistors and capacitors. Either way, you have to do some hard-modding. I am actually making plans to overhaul my audio system, and it will include adding some circuitry to the CD43 motherboard and then some hefty mods to a cheap 5CH class-D amp.

For now though...still looking for feedback on the Grom aux input or other similar products for the CD43. I wanna get my podcast on while driving lol!

OK, I pulled the trigger on a Grom aux input setup. I'll post details of the install and any usage issues that come up (HOPEFULLY none).

I thought about the Android-control and Bluetooth modes, but really I have zero interest in trying to control my phone from the CD43, and the audio-out will play voice calls through the aux input anyway. I can't imagine that the BT mic is any better than the mic in the phone either. I have done plenty of driving with a voice call with the phone in my lap. Since I have my music on my phone already, I also don't see the need for a USB flash drive reader. I DID splurge and drop the extra $5 on the Aux + USB charger cable.

Keep us updated, I'm looking to get one for my e46, but I'm thinking about going all out and getting the Bluetooth /android control combo.
