    Budget balling ~ speaker advice

Well, I'm working on upgrading my sound system, my car came with no speakers, and a Kenwood head unit (not really a fan of Kenwood head units, I don't like the layout).

I've purchased a 10 inch Infinity 1060w sub to help with the low end, since 5 1/4" speakers don't have much low end.

I had some kicker cheap ass speakers (Kicker DS525) in my last e30, and they were ok, but not great.

So, I'm currently looking for new 5 1/4" speakers. I am looking to spend no more then $70 per set on speakers.

So far, I've been leaning toward these Infinity Reference X REF-5002ix

I was also looking at these Pioneer TS-D1302r They are $15 cheaper per set, but I wasn't inpressed with my last Pioneer speakers, granted they were cheap.

I was also thinking that I could modify the rears to put 6.5's in the rear and run the 5 1/4 inch in the front. I've read that 6.5's are much better, but don't know if I want to deal with putting them in the front.

Any advice, and suggestions would be great.

I have a set of these Bravox Kevlar cone component speakers (that Luke recommended when I was building my setup). I have been thrilled with the sound quality they produce, and would buy them again in a heart beat.

They appear to be NLA new, but at this price, I highly recommend them.

Who needs audio, the clickity clack of a high strung Singer M20 sewing machine is all the glorious sound you need.

I'll have to do some searching. I appreciate it.

I don't live on a farm, I don't have the supplemental sound of cows mooing and cocks crowing.

TS-D1320C is a better setup for a coupe chassis.
          CDE-HD148BT head unit

i run these speakers off this headunit and it is shocking how clear it is. it's not crazy loud but will damage your ears at max - before clipping.
          Much wow

Awesome! I plan on getting an Alpine head unit.

Thanks for that info! I'll go ahead and see what I can find. I'm not super worried about the 5 1/4 inch speakers since I'll have a sub in the mix.

It looks like I can find those speakers for about $70-$80, so I might have to step up and make it happen.

@cabriolet are you running them front and rear? How difficult was it to get them mounted up in the premium boxes?

I just ordered some TS-D1320C. The reviews on them are fantastic, and they are not much more then the other speakers I was looking at.

I ordered two sets. Are you running a set in the front? Are you powering them with an Amp?

Cool, I appreciate it. I'm thinking I'll do the same. Are you running front tweeters into tweeter pods?
