This may also tempt me to get some better speakers. Interested to hear your review after you run them.

I'll certainly let you know. I'm ready for some quality sound. My room mate dropped over a grand on tower speakers, and now my cheap kicker speakers just ain't cutting it.

        Hmmmm.

As you know, I have done a TON of these cars, plus a few million others.

That particular speaker, the Reference, is always my #1 "goto" speaker. They tend to brightness, and in a normal car have nice big fat midbass and play plenty loud. They sound fucking fantastic in a Suburban or a Camry, but are thin, harsh and bright in an E30. It ain't the speaker, its the car.

Let me say too that the Reference is a pain in the ass to install properly too. The cone bulging out means you need to space the grilles out in front, and in the rear its just a complete pain in the dick.

I have said it before about 9 million times, but I will say it again: the stock Premium Sound is a better overall sound quality, but it isn't because it is a better speaker, but because BMWs in general, and E30s in specific have a tiny little area behind the speaker.

We all know what happens when you put a speaker in too small a box, right? The bass goes away just magically. The speaker still flops around but it doesn't make any bass at all, it just wastes power. If you have ever put a pair of 6X9's in those little bullshit boxes, you know exactly what I am talking about.

So while I can personally say that I really like the Infinities, if you are looking for great sound in an E30, that ain't the way to fly. Stock PS, or far better, the stock PS housings with our LPCNs and stock E34 speakers is hands down the best you will get out of an E30s stock positions.

Once you get a full set of stock PSs with some decent power running them, you will be happy. If not, do our crossovers with E34 drivers. The sound is far superior, the quality of the pieces shows.

I ended up going with the pioneer speakers recommended by Cabriolet. I've also purchased some PS housings to put the speakers into like he did. We'll see how it goes I guess.

I know what you mean with the space, there really isn't any room in the speaker locations.

I appreciate your input. I purchased the infinity sub and later saw that you were using one in your '$500 awesome system' thread.
