I have deadened a couple cars. On the e30, unless you do the floorboards and tunnel. the rest is almost useless unless you are just trying to improve bass in the rear. I stripped out the factory crap. Next step once i find black carpet is to put in two lead sheets up front. I will post a lost more later this summer once mine gets parked in a few weeks.

    Ian-

Very nice! A lot of time and effort has been put into that, and it definitely shows. Hat's off to you!

Question or two-Ian, what brand of sound deadening material is that?

Now I know what the benefits of sound deadening material are, but what kind of difference does it actually make in our E30's? Groupie, I would like to hear your comments on that also. I want to at least do the kick panel area in my M3, but I don't want to add too much because of weight issues. Then again, the M3 has much less factory sound deadening so it would probably be more beneficial for it.

Okay guys, I've had a busy old week and have pretty much finished in the boot now.
Before fitting the amp rack, I did a bit of deadening on the rear bulkhead:

Then the amp rack went in...

    ....and the lid went on:

This is where the distro block lives:

I also made a little cover to hide it:

Then the CD changer and the boot tidy was fitted:

I also made a new floor board and trimmed it to match:

Next job is to mount the 4000x processor and DAB unit in one of the rear 1/4 panels. I know roughly where it's all going, but there's not that much space to play with.
    Ian.

    Hi Luke,

    Not quite yet

I've actually finished the enclosure now and all the wiring is secured across the back of it. I've also fitted the Speakon connectors and made the enclosure lid (piccy's to follow ). Before it goes in the car, I'm going to cover the bottom of the baseboard with felt to stop any damage/scratches to the boot (trunk) floor.

Once it's in the car, I need to run new wires for the speakers and make the new RCA leads from the DSP to the Amps. Also need to decide exactly how/where to mount the fused distribution block. I know roughly where it's going, but can't decide how I want it to look.

I'm hoping to crack on with it this coming week though. Updates to follow.

    Cheers,

    Ian.

Seriously gorgeous install. Kinda dumb question but how much weight do you think this adds to your car, although granted its not in a bad spot being right over the axle.

What's that "S" thing all your grounds are going to?

What brand wires are you running?

How do you hook up the fans to run when the car is on? Power them off the remote?

I gotta do something like this for the E34...
    Hi Jared,

It is quite a lot of weight, but I don't know how much to be honest. I've made the complete install removable for track days or trips to the Nurburgring etc. All connections are on plugs/quick connects (except the power leads) so it's not hard to take out if required. The car is primarily a daily driver so I'm happy to sacrifice some power for the sake of good tunes

That 'S' think is a Stinger ground distribution block. It will have a piece of 0 gauge wire coming out of the top of it when it's installed. All the power wires are Stinger as well.

I'm lucky with the fans as the amplifiers have a temperature dependant fan output. When the amps warm up they will automatically ramp up the fan speed as the temperature increases. They will be running full speed at 60 degrees C.

    Cheers,

    Ian.

Damn your wiring job is a beauty.

That base board does look CNC machined, its damn impressive too. Alot of thought was put into it for all the wires and such.

I can't wait to see the completed install.
