New Head Unit= No Antenna Functionality...whats wrong?

I had my Head unit professionally installed this weekend and now the antenna no longer comes up and down. this prevents me from getting a good signal when i want to listen to the radio. The shop said that they would take care of it if I came back but i know they struggled with it for some time before giving up once already. If i can do something to fix it quickly i will do so. If not, any helpful information i can get on the forums i will relay to the shop. thanks in advance.

    PS:
    I had a Kenwood Excelon KDC-X998 installed.
If any other details are needed just let me know.

Check the fuses, verify the antenna has power, ground and turn on signal from the radio. They probably didn't hook up the antenna turn on lead correctly.

            Year: 1986
            Model: 325e

Audio: It had Premium sound which was replaced with Rockford Fosgate speakers (components in front, Coax in rear) and an infinity sub in the trunk. All-new wiring to the speakers was installed, but old harnesss and wires should still be there). Speakers and sub were put in at the same time as HU install.

any other thoughts than above? Thanks again.

Thanks for the feedback... Just checked fuses. All appear good and nothing else electrical in the car seems to be wrong. Will relay the rest of this info to the shop.

                Sounds like this.
If they bypassed all the existing equipment, they would not have hooked up the white wire in the original harness to anything. That wire powers the original premium sound amp AND the antenna.

The white wire that turns on the antenna should be wrapped up with the antenna wire. There's a second white wire for the premium amp, so make sure you get the right one. Hopefully it's not dangling down on the steering shaft, things get wrapped up in that and is no bueno. Find it and splice it to blue on the deck, that's usually the the sub amp turn on wire, or whatever color they used. Read your instructions on your deck, mine mentioned a max 150ma on the blue line so I had to install a relay. The relay was 146ma haha!

I wanted a switch on mine, so here's what I did. (temp switch) You don't need a switch, but you could possibly need a relay.

Used a defroster switch to turn the antenna on and off. I use the ipod about %99 of the time. Only time I used FM was at the drive-ins.

Pulled power off the rear defroster to run the lights in the switch.

This is way more complicated than you need to make it, you're just doing one wire.

^^THAT IS AWESOME. Dude, you are seriously the man! I just so happen to have a spare defroster switch so I think ill try the same, or rather i'll "relay" this info to the shop do it since they get the lovely pleasure of making it work again  (pun intended!). Do you have a link to or exact specifications of the relay you used? I just want to know what exactly to buy.

So far i know i need:
                    Random/defroster switch
                    unspecified relay
some electrical wiring of varying colors???

The shop also said they would swap, for free, the temporary kicker sub amp we put in with the kenwood X500-1 i ordered when it comes in. They also said they'd help with installing the lukebox (GAS-E3010) that's currently en-route.

I think ill wait to get the goods and head back over there with a to-do list for em :-D

I got whatever bosch relay the part store had. It was $10, pretty steep, but I demand excellence! The important part was it had a high coil resistance so it took very little power to turn on, staying under the 150ma the radio said to. You may not even need it, your instructions should point you in the right direction.

Get it working first, then add a switch later if you see fit.
