    Alternator Amperage

    Hi guys,

So my battery light stays lit up after I turn off the car and remove my keys. After some google searches, general consensus is that the alternator is bad.

I am planning to get an used alternator from someone and is wondering if all e30 alternators are interchangeable. I did some searching and it shows that the m20 uses a 95 amp alternator and m42 uses a 80 amp? I have a M42, is it okay for the car to be running a higher amperage alternator?

Sure, I have seen people use multiple alternators in car audio competitions. You will be fine interchanging your alternator.

How about fitment? Is it a direct fit? Or is modification necessary?

No, its not, unless it is E30 and M20, it isn't a direct fit
