It will work. I ran a 325e cluster in my 318is for a while. As long as you have a late model cluster with the coding plug on the front you should be fine.

Since you have a 325i, your gas tank will be larger so you will need to change the gas gauge out as well. Notice how the gas gauge on some clusters have a double line by the full mark and some have a line and a dot. That is how you can tell the difference. That's what I've read and seen anyway. There may be some exceptions.

I also have one but the coding plug isn't up front. Will that work too?

So, what will each difference signify?

Not quite sure. My guess is no but maybe someone else knows.

For example, my 325i convertible has the double line fuel gauge. It has a 63 liter tank. My 318is has the dot on the gauge and it has a 55 liter tank. All of my eta clusters from the junkyard have the dot, as does my 318is cluster.

Again, just observations. There may be exceptions.

Most cluster parts are not interchangeable from late model clusters to early model clusters and vice versa. The only exception is the fuel, temp, and speedometer gauges.

But yes, you can swap a early model 5k tach for a early model 7k tach and swap the early model plugs too.

Si boards coming in two generations, early and late model. You can interchange each generation for the same generation regardless of battery type.
