I just picked up an 86 325es that has some tach issues. I pulled the cluster today and cleaned and tightened both fuel gauge and coolant temp nuts and studs and checked for any damage to the cluster from the wrong screws being used. I still have some issues though, on start up the tach sometimes is stuck at 1k or 2k and most of the time it just wont work at all and will stay at 0. Gas gauge only shows half and the tank is full. Coolant temp gauge only going up to 1/4 even after the car has been driven 40 miles. My ODO and trip ODO work and roll fine. Im not sure its the IS batteries, and I have searched as much as I could on here and some other forum. Any help is appreciated.

You need new Si board batteries. Also check your SI board for damage.
