For satellite radio, you have to have an antenna stuck on your trunklid.

      Nice instl!

Damn nice install man. Like the ashtray spot even more than the stealth antenna. Is it Serius or XM that lets you download the mp3 of the song your listening to, cause thats badass. Is it possible in your setup?

You can simply solder wires onto the ciggy lighter and wire them in.
How is reception with the antenna in the brakelight?

thnaks. It depends on which reciever you have. Mine only has a 1hr running memory. I think XM has the mp3 feature

You sneaky snake, nice! How is reception with your brake light and rear defroster?

he's a cabrio so no rear defroster so I'm sure his reception is quite good. Very creative placement of the antenna. I'm an ardent Sirius supporter... haven't listened to the local FM stations in... wow... years. My reception can get choppy sometimes if there is a lot of rain in the canopy as I live in a highly wooded area, but its still worth it.

yeah, I've had XM for a few years now myself. I'm glad I installed that switch for my antenna way back because it's gone up maybe three times since then, and that's just looking for games on the radio.

I put the sirius antenna on the rear shelf with no problems, seems simpler. For hardwiring, what I've done is cut off the cigarette adapter, wire in a fuseable link, run the power line to the radio switched accessory fuse, and ground to chasis. Haven't done it on an e30 yet, but the way I did it on the fusion is here:

browntown, does the fm modulator really help with reception? I was told that the modulator only helps with static.

I had my antenna on the third brake light. Signal is fringe here so I doubt I could have gotten away with having it inside.

In the cab I had a Kenwood module so it ran through the HU. I liked the ability to store songs I liked so when I got the LC I went external. I like being able to take the tuner inside, another plus of the external tuner deal.

I have mine hardwired to the cigarrette lighter and the inline fuse which is part of the power cord is accessable behind the unit.

Best thing is a PIE auxillary input adapter, or the addon units for aftermarket stereos. The real plus of the FM modulator isn't as much sound quality like the PIE's offer, but less creeping in of fm stations as you move around the geography. In my job I'm in several counties a day, and with the built in fm transmitter you have to change the channel it broadcasts on if you roll into a town with some christian/western station at the bottom of the dial as you'll get side-band creep.
