Flickering OBC. Impending doom?

A 1990 325i I have just bought but not taken delivery of yet has an OBC that flickers. The display just flashes random characters even when the car is off and the key is removed. Is this a sign of big electrical problems down the road?

Not that this will fix every obc, but when mine started to flicker, I took it completely apart and cleaned all the contacts. Including the LED contact board. Works great for the last year or so.
