This sounds pretty stupid but(same as below) my window is giving me problems also--exactly how and with what do I clean the switch with?

try swapping the switch with the other known working switch (assuming you have one). If the problem follows the switch replace it.

If you must clean the switch and not replace it then use a can of Contact Cleaner from the local Home Depot or Lowes.
