My speedometer on my 1986 325e stopped working, I've tried soldering the back of it but it still doesn't work, it does occasionally work but that rarely happens. Anyone have any ideas on how to fix it???

Try the following;
1: Replace fuse 10, 12 and 21 with new. Dont check them, just replace.
2: Inspection of rear differential speed sending unit. Common to find brittle wires, corroded copper resulting in poor connection.
3: VDO brand speedometers are very common to have solder joint or solder trace cracks. Reflow entire circuit board.
From what it sounds, you "tried" to solder the back of the board. Are you 100% confident you soldered every single solder trace? Not just a spot here and there, the whole thing needs to be reflowed.Owner - Bavarian Restoration
