    E30 Instrument Clusters

I just replaced the VDO instrument cluster with a Motometer unit on my 1987 325i. The cluster battery died on the VDO and I had a Motometer with a good battery that was in better shape. Everything works on the Motometer except the gas gauge. The new empty is at the half full mark. I suspect that the fuel pump needs to be matched to the cluster. I have some spare pumps. Is there any way of identifying which pump is compatible with a Motometer cluster by external inspection? What years did the 325i use the VDO cluster and which the Motometer?

Sounds like you have an early car with a late cluster...the fuel sensors are different on the two, you may be able to put your old gauge in the new cluster, im not sure

Yes, just swap your fuel gauge from your old cluster and everything will be good.
