    Parklamp operation

just wondering if anyone elses e30 does this..

when you pull the HL switch knob out to the first position (park)

the low beam headlamps come on with the park lamps.

Pull it out to the second position.. same deal.. parks and lowbeams are on.

its a brand new genuine HL switch too so I can rule that out..

Also if the car is off, pull the switch to the first position, the park lamps ONLY will come on.. but as soon as you turn on the ign the headlamps are on with the parks.

    normal operation or not?

Tap your low beam relays, they might be stuck.

right so this is what I have worked out thus far..

Lowbeams controlled by your typical 5 pin relay.
Relay is negatively switched and power is applied correctly to 86 & 30 as per the diagrams..

85 (earth switched), switchable direct feed from the headlamp switch.
First and second stage of the switch earth is being sent to 85 for some reason. (first being the error)

as mentioned switch is ruled out as its a brand new switch and the previous switch did it as well.

the only reason PARK ONLY will come on in the stationary position is because
86 isnt hot on the lowbeam relay.. which is normal.

so.. what im thinking is either something is up BEFORE the switch. I will need to see where the switch is getting its earth from but I assume its mounted directly to the body. OR a park circuit earth somewhere is in contact with that 85 wire.
      yay.
