    cm5908, no sound

Anyone tried repairing the thing? What's common "no sound" causes? I replaced all amp capacitors since they need to be removed in order to test them anyway. Still no luck.. Same result: all channels have very very quiet screeching sound when volume know is turned up/down. How often the actual ICs go bad on these? I found the same IC, Sanyo LA4445 for under $/ea. Thinking about giving them a shot. Crazy, these things were expensive back in the day. Any other ideas?
