The only one I've seen is that Steller alarm that I linked to at BavAuto, but it's extremely expensive at $200.

Since I have a cabrio, if it's not double-locked, people could reach inside with the top down and unlock the whole car and trunk. I don't want that, and I don't want to put up the top every time I park the car.

But still--at $80...I might consider it even without double-locking.

Remote start, keyless, alarm, easy install, great range (1/4 mile or so), etc. I do about 15 of these a month (on a slow month) and have been impresssed by the reliability. They have been OEMing everyone else's alarms for 24 years, doing retail for 2 years.

R3V price is about $80, shipped.

Scytek makes a doo-dad that makes a keyless entry into a full alarm. It is about $60 shipped. Siren, impact sensor...armed by the "lock" signal, disamed by "unlock".

I am actaully taking a break from installing a Galaxy 500 RS-2W in an '03 SportTrak Expidition right now!

I have heard nothing but complaints from those Ebay "flip key" alarms, except for James C's (I think it was James).

Anyway, GL on the hunt for alarm stuff. If you need tech help, call me if ya wanna.

So I've looked into the Scytek's more, and I really like the Astra Starter 1000RS and the Astra 4000RS you mentioned. I don't really think I need the whole alarm business (which is what it looks like you get with the 4000), but the remote start and keyless is definately what I'm looking for.

I went to their website and downloaded their product manual to see how hard it would be to install. Man, my head started to spin when I read that stuff. Granted, I've learned how to install a head unit, so it couldn't be much harder, but I might PM you or call you Luke if I decide to buy it.

hEY...(fuck I hate capslock)...I thought of something. As far as the doublelock dealy-o, you could simply press the "lock" button twice...if it is the same wire.

Anyone have a Bently so they could look at the cabby wiring? Is it still 2 wires coming from the key tumbler?

Hmmm, that's not a bad idea. I'll take a look at it when I get home, although I don't know if I'll make sense of it. :p

Damn, I wish I had seen this thread before. 149+shipping. I Bought the Alarm from United Auto instead. Got to say it is pretty easy to install. The instructions and the diagram just for the e30 make it painless. Pretty basic alarm with the keyless.I love the flip key and I hope I wont regret it in the long run. Only issue so far is that if the trunk is opened while the alarm is armed, it does not go off?. If you open a door it goes off. I think its missing a trunk switch cable of some sort to let the brain know. Other thing is IMO the Blue LED in the center console really sticks out at night. Shows off my cracked seats for now. I might change it to orange. Sigh. Still beats using a key to get in.

You have to run a wire from the switch in the trunklid to the alarm to make it trigger. You should have a second "negative trigger" on the brain, typically a blue wire...but I have no idea on that alarm.

If it has no second trigger, you can connect the 2nd wire to the door pins. If you don't mind the trunk turning on the intereior lights, just connect it. Otherwise, you would use a diode to allow the trigger to work but not turn the domelight on.

                Thanks Luke,

I will look for the extra trigger, But I don't think it's on the harness, they did not mention it in the installation manual. I will probably run the wire from the trunk to the other one as suggested. I do not mind the interior lights turning on. At least that way it protects my amp.
                Thanks again for the help.

^^ i just installed this system in my iX. not very hard if you're not color blind like me... i'm color deficient so i had to rely on another set of eyes to look at the wires for me.

the hardest part was getting the balls to cut all the wires and hooking them up. BTW, the RED wire under teh steering column... it's hot. the steering column cover... it's a ground. holding that exposed red wire and touching the metal cover = funky tingling feeling.

if it wasn't for dickin' around with food and then smoke breaks and this and that, i would say the install should take (with remote start) about 1.5 hours. if you just wanted keyless, 20 minutes.
