    V1 on the fritz??

So I just picked up a used V1 from a member here and it seems to be acting up. I don't really feel like sending it in, especially considering how much I just paid for it, so I was wondering if any of you with V1s could shed some light on the issue?

    Here are the symptoms:
I'm used to a Bel 960, which works fine but has false alerts everywhere. The V1 had significantly fewer false alerts but I got suspicious when I noticed a distinct lack of K band alerts. I've seen one so far, from an automatic door, but so far nothing on the local cops or the speed readout signs in town, which my Bel will pick up over a mile away. I've fiddled with the settings some, but everything seems normal. Any thoughts why a $400 radar detector would suck?

    Thanks!

Anyone have any ideas? I really don't want to have to send it in for service...

What mode are you running the radar in? Read up on the differnent modes on valentines site. If its in Logic or Advanced Logic it filters the signals it alerts you to and how. That way its not going off 24/7. In All mode it alerts you to all incoming signals, most annoying. My V1 stays in Logic and almost never goes off unless there is really a cop. In my experience the V1 can't be beat.

I've been running it in All mode most of the time. It basically seems like it's not getting an K band or something, Ka it picks up but three times now it's completely ignored cop cars and radar signposts while my Bel 960 has a K band fit along side it. I feel like a bit of a tool with the two detectors on my window, and worse still they're in my minivan...

That is very odd indeed. I would phone valentine and see what their reccomendation is if you haven't done so already. It sounds like part of the sensor array isn't functioning.

dude. it wont pick up unless they're using radar. just give it some time. i've had a V1 for a couple years and i only drive by cops who are actually radaring maybe once every couple months. it works and works very well. i've never run mine in anything but full logic (L) mode. i hate false alerts and the full logic works very well. good luck.

I did call them, they said send it back. But they want money. Should I ask the person who sold it to me for some assistance in covering their fees?

That was kinda my thought too, but I did get a pretty reasonable deal, at least for a fully FUNCTIONING V1. I shipped it out to Valentine yesterday so I'll see what they say....

Valentine is going to upgrade it to current spec and send it back to me. This of course is a tidy $80... I don't think it's fair to ask the seller to cover that entire ammount but the basic repair cost would be $50 which would bring it up to it's originally advertised specs. I think this is fair number to request, opinions?

I would because he did sell it to you as fully working and you did pay close to full price for it. I would not hold back at all!

I sent him a rather nice and humble PM earlier today simply stating where everything was at and how much it was costing me and he basically said it wasn't his problem anymore and that I should take it out with UPS.

UPS? Is he saying it was damaged in shipping? Is that remotely possible?

I was waiting for him to chime in. I'd say if that is his response, you should ask again, more firmly for at least a reasonable compensation and if he still has a not my problem attitude, I'd file a dispute with the mode of payment you used and make it his problem.

                              Sorry this happened.
